Brooke Shields details the terrifying moment a surgeon revealed they had performed vaginal resuscitation without her consent while she was anesthetized for another operation.
The Blue Lagoon The actress, 59, had followed her gynecologist’s recommendation and scheduled a lip reduction procedure eight years after welcoming daughters Rowan and Grier with her husband Chris Henchy;.
Shields felt discomfort due to the length of her labia, which her doctor assured her could be resolved with a lip reduction. However, the model’s surgeon made a shocking revelation during her checkup.
Talking to you The Observerrecalls Shields: “He was like, ‘Yeah, it took a long time,’ and then he kind of winked at me.” And he says, “because I tightened them little by little.”
He continued: “I was surprised, as you can tell. Speechless. He acted like he was doing me a favor, but I didn’t ask for it, I didn’t need it. I left there surprised.”
THE Beautiful baby The star considered suing the doctor for their “audacity and crime” but ultimately decided against legal action because she “didn’t want us talking about my lady parts, once again, on the front page of every newspaper.”
Shields added that all she could think was, “Why can’t everyone just leave my vagina alone?”
Reflecting on the ordeal, the model added: ‘One good thing that came out of it was that it made me feel more one with women. When I was in the hospital with a broken femur, this brilliant surgeon saw me and said, “Oh, dear God. Famous people get the worst treatment.’
“He said, ‘Doctors either want to show off or they want to prove to you that they don’t care who you are. And none of that is healthy or productive. But I think that experience made me feel more connected to women, realizing – that things like this happen all the time.”
Vaginal rejuvenation is a general term given to cosmetic gynecological treatment, which can help improve the look, feel and function of your vagina.
It comes after Shields, who recently released her memoir Brooke Shields Can’t Get Old: Thoughts on Aging as a Womanrevealed the sexist comment two doctors made to her after a seizure.
“Women go through things. We have to be able to say, “That’s not fair.” We have to be able to advocate,” she said of choosing to write about the health care system.
“I had a seizure a while ago and the two male doctors said, ‘Are you restricting yourself for nutritional reasons?’ continue.
“I was like, ‘No. I am a 59 year old woman who looks younger plump. Give me some chips!’ You wouldn’t say that to a man.”
She went on to explain that the aim of her memoir was not to show the differences between men and women or even to be angry about the situation.
“But it’s time to explore this without shouting, without getting angry. I tell my girls … we don’t need to shout louder,” Shields said.
“We just have to be secure in what we believe in and be heard, because we’re not going to get anywhere screaming.”
