Have you heard about using botox to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on your face, but what about Scrotox? (Yes, that’s exactly what you think is.)
In recent years, Botox has grown massively within men, with the British College of Aesthetic Medicine Reporting 70% of male aesthetic therapies by 2021, while some professionals recommend one quarter of their patients are also men. But treatments are not just for their faces, with men now seeking injections for their limits.
What is Scrotox – and how does it help?
Scrotox is the name given to the Botox injections into the scrotumA treatment that is becoming increasingly popular, according to Dr Mike Tee, a senior doctor at Harley Street Skin Clinic. It costs about £ 1,200, with results lasting three to four months.
What to read below
While some men seek Scrotox for medical reasons – including hyperthonement (excessive sweating) that causes irritation and odor) or a hyperactive muscle.
“In adult men, a Cremaster hyperactive muscle can cause unintentional and frequent tight contractions, which can be very painful,” Dr. Tee said Indy100. “Both physical activity and sexual activity can be affected.”
Botox helps by reducing sweating and minimizing Cremaster muscles, which may otherwise cause discomfort. But Dr Tee says that about 80% of men now get the scrotox for cosmetic benefits – that is, smoother skin and temporary appearance of larger testicles.
Recovery is usually fast, with most men repeating normal activities within 72 hours. Still, as with any procedure, complications may occur.
The side effects
As with any injection, infection is a possible risk. But that’s not all. Muscle hypertension can occur if the botox spreads too far, leading to asymmetry or the scrotum that hangs lower than foreseen.
Because the cremaster muscle – and the close tissues – can be affected, muscle weakness is another possible side effect. In rare cases, treatment can interfere with thermoregulation and production of sperm, which could affect fertility if the toxin diffuses very deeply.
The bottom line
While Scrotox can offer both cosmetics and functional benefits, they are not without risks – so it is necessary to consult a qualified professional and weigh the advantages and disadvantages before booking.
