When Katy Corio reached thirty, her attitude towards breast implants changed dramatically. She is a bodybuilder, trainer and model from San Diego, who, at 24, had an increase in breast-a movement that seemed normal in her career, often in bikini as external clothing and sports bra.
I was young, hungry for success and I wanted to move on to the field. Everyone received implants and it was almost expected that you would do it.
After eight years, the silicone implants it had placed under the thoracic muscles became heavy and restrictive, especially during chest exercises. She felt that the size had become too big for her, and over time the sense of nipple faded after the business.
“They became so uncomfortable that my body whispered: It’s time to remove them. They have become very heavy now,” Corio said. In 2019 he learned that the textured type of implant with the manufacturer had been revoked because of a rare type of lymphoma that increased health concerns.
In February, in a series of seats, Corio said about half a million fans were planning to remove the implants. He underwent an event surgery in February and released a 19 -minute video. The reaction was fast and largely supportive, but with some criticism: one of the videos garnered over 14 million views.
“It was shocking,” she explains why there was so much interest in her decision. She believes that publicity triggered a curiosity about what would look like her breasts after removing – but also prompted other women to approach it, especially who consulted and what method she chose. There are several degeneration options: a simpler removal, the likelihood of removing the capsule or surrounding tissue, if necessary, as well as additional lifting of the breasts. The results and rehabilitation times for each patient can vary and may take several months.
Corio hopes to help other women. Before removing them, he initially believed that a consultation with a primary surgeon would be simple, but it was outraged when she began to persuade her to change her mind in favor of a complete expression with a consequent reduction in implant.
“It was literally as if trying to scare me away from removing implants,” he told one of Instagram videos. “It was scary.” According to Corio, the surgeon who did not respond to commentary requests showed the extreme images of destroyed, broken and heterogeneous breasts and asked her partner if she wanted to appear in this way. Recall the doctor by saying, “You are young and attractive, you should have attractive breasts.”
What happens when women want to remove implants, they are rarely discussed as openly as decisions to increase their size. Women can be discouraged by the cost of surgery, cultural pressure or pressure on the field of plastic surgery itself.
“Many patients came to me and said,” I returned to my primary surgeon and refused to perform a degeneration. ”
Despite the obstacles, the rise of implant relocation has occurred worldwide in recent years. A global ISAPs survey recorded a sharp rise between 2020 and 2024, with surgeons performing almost two -thirds more. In the United States, data from the US Society of Plastic Surgeons show steady growth from 2020 to 2023, but the numbers declined last year, linked to economic uncertainty. However, removal remains a relatively small share of total cosmetic procedures – about 2% worldwide, compared to 9.5% for increases, according to the results of the ISAPs survey.
Among celebrities, many talk openly about removing implants – the most famous Pamela Anderson, as well as Ashley Tisdale, Sza and Chrissy Teigen.
“They have served me well for many years, but I don’t want them anymore. I want to fit into dresses of my size, to be comfortable in my stomach – without discomfort, it’s not a small thing!”
As with Teigen, the decision is not always explained exclusively by changes in beauty or fashion-some times related to lifestyle or age-related changes, such as menopause, which can increase breast size.
Individual patients, such as Ail Bala from southern California, also describe the social pressure and attitudes of loved ones pushing for surgery. After 18 years he decided to remove the implants and undergo a lift. The cost of the business was significantly higher due to both processes, but said that she focused on herself and wants to take care of herself and her children.
In recent years, attention has increased in the so-called BII implant disease (BII)-a set of systemic symptoms such as fatigue, “brain fog”, joint pain and respiratory issues, often described by their own patients, but are not yet recognized. Studies show that these symptoms overlap with many chronic diseases, complicating the performance of the causes.
The FDA Security Committee recognized the possibility of BII and stricter safety requirements for the sale of implants in 2021, including systemic symptoms in safety instructions along with well -known cancer risks. However, many doctors believe that these risks are low and show problems in industry due to the human factor – gender prejudice and a lack of specialization in certain aspects.
Like Dr. Antoni Yun, a plastic surgeon by Troy, Michigan, who became known for the opening of degenerations, he notes, the risk of the BII is typically low. At the same time, he argues that in medicine there is a “blind spot” due to gender prejudice and lack of training in certain symptoms. He also stresses that understanding the causes of brain fog in women in plastic surgery training programs is inadequate.
According to social media reports, support groups with tens of thousands of members share experiences of diseases and surgery, information exchanges and weighs risks. At the same time, scientists are warning that online communities can spread non -verified information and push patients to the most radical expression than needed.
Overall, doctors and patients agree that decisions on the body must be personal and based on health, not on social pressure or social media advertising. Recovery after removing implants can be improved by supporting and understanding options and dangers.
What should you consider when thinking about expression
If you are thinking of removing implants, discuss all options with your doctor: from mere extraction to removal of the capsule and possible breast lift. The cost can be increased due to additional procedures, but for many patients it is a critical decision for comfort and health.
At the end of the day, the decision is yours. Experts estimate that expression does not always solve all problems, but can improve the quality of life – physically and psychologically – with a rational approach and support from loved ones.
