From the Antigua and Barbuda dental union
The Antigua and Barbuda Dental Association (ABDA) is aware of the recent claims in social media and public brochures that link the treatment of roots to breast cancer. These statements have caused unnecessary alarm and confusion between the public. As the body representing dental professionals in Antigua and Barbuda, we are obliged to respond clearly and science.
The treatment of the root channels, when indicated, remains a safe, effective and supported therapeutic option to save natural teeth. The procedure is approved by credible global dental organizations, including American dental unionthe Dental linkthe Canadian dental unionthe Dental Associationof whom we are members, and the World Dental Federationfrom which ABDA is a candidate member, soon to be a member.
To date, There are no reliable scientific evidence It links treatment with the radical of the channel to breast cancer or other systemic diseases. The allegations that indicate differently are based on outdated or unstable theories that have been strictly eliminated from peer. As providing dental health care, We follow the research based on evidence To guide the care we provide, not the trends or the unsupported information.
While we respect the right of every clinician to adjust his practice, we warn not to share personal decisions as universal truths without stable scientific support. This type of messages can be alarming, causing patients to make choices that are not for the best interest in their healthsuch as premature export of teeth and replace them with more expensive alternatives, such as dental implants.
Abda emphasizes that we are not just treating teeth – we treat people. Our role as Dental health supporters are to consider the whole patient, That is why the Union also gives us priority in prevention, public education and lifestyle guidance. The Sunny Smiles program teaches children – and therefore their families – about the importance of nutrition, oral hygiene and the effect of sugar consumption on overall health. We are seriously concerned about rising childhood obesity and its well -known connection to chronic diseases, including certain cancers.
It is vital to understand that a poor diet, the lack of physical activity and the lifestyle factors, such as excessive consumption of candies, sugar drinks and excessive fast food, are much more strongly linked to the increased risk of cancer from any dental process.
As a Union, we meet quarterly and each session includes continuous education to ensure that our members are informed of the latest scientific knowledge. We are united in our commitment to provide safe, effective and moral care to our patients and community.
We urge the public to consult authorized dental professionals in decision -making. Get second views on your oral health and search for information from reliable sources supported by the research.
