It is a widespread “truth” that cellulite is a condition that we bring to ourselves and that we should therefore be able to get rid of it. CUE A giant Ant-Cellulite industry that includes machines, tools, creams and even scalpels that promise to delete the cavities-and to a large extent guaranteed to leave you frustrated.
Because cellulite is, more than anything else, bad luck. Which is mainly determined by genetics and hormones (although worsened by the lifestyle), and even skinny people take it. I know, because I’m one of them. I never struggled with my weight, but there it was suddenly in the late adolescence, and I hated it immediately.
The positivity of the body is fine and good, but I plan the line to tell me to “embrace” and boast my cellulite. I am a generation that has been taught to play one’s natural advantages and kindly to cover less characteristics-and I find my doughy, dimply thighs my singly inappropriate to view. If you love yours, more power to you. But for me, hot pants (or shorts of any kind) are out – and since I was 17.

And I admit, I have sought a “solution” for four decades-half of whom were spent as a beauty journalist with (of course free!) Access to literally any “anti-cellulite” treatment in the world. So, thousands of pounds of procedures later, have I got the feet of a gazelle and Kylie Minogue’s bottom? At all. I still have what is very similar to my mom’s legs. And my grandmother.
However, there were improvements and I had many ideas that could help anyone who wants to minimize cellulite if it bothers you. The most experienced experts in the body of the industry agree that the secret is a multilevel, consistent approach that includes massage, nutrition, exercise and tissue drainage. But before you roll your eyes into “too much effort”, “none of them are as intended as it sounds,” says Kate Shapland, creator of the “foot maintenance” brand that is based on evidence Legology.
Here is the truth about cellulite as I see it and the ways I learned to minimize it, to the point where I finally tightened the knee boat shorts on the beach and returned to my bikini. At my fifty.
What causes cellulite?
Under your skin is a network of fiber belts that connect it to muscle tissues and is fat. The fat cells and fluids containing waste accumulate over time, so that the belts can harden and pull down while fat and fluid push, creating nipples.
These factors can make you more prone to it:
For women, our tissues beneath the skin are structured like a tufted mattress, while the fibrous men’s compositions are crossed, making the fat more difficult to get out. Then there is estrogen: it can be a cause of cellulite, as things often grow when estrogen exceeds, as in adolescence (which was definitely the case for me) or pregnancy.
Genetics determines skin structure, skin texture, body type and lymph node function – and therefore how well your system drains toxins and stagnant liquids.
How moving and how well you eat the influence of both your lymph nodes and your warehouses, so they also play a role in the development of cellulite.
What treatments at home can improve cellulite?
“You want to target the congestion of the lymph nodes around a dens of fat cells,” says Shapland. When the lymph node is sluggish, the waste is not cleared by the tissues around adipose cells and this is a major cause of cellulite. To get these cleaning mechanisms back to tools, it swears with a combination of body brushing and deeper massage, which, when consistently done, really brings improvement. Try these:
- Dry brushing your whole body
Brushing the body is a maintenance routine for the lymphatic system and should be done daily as the treatment of the whole body to activate the mechanism of degrader and keep it smoothly. We like to try out the rapid approach of two Balance Me Brushes at Brush and lighten Set, £ 40, which combines the bright super compressed body oil with two vegan body brushes.
“When it is slightly and quickly in the direction of the heart, the hairs give the perfect intermittent pressure on a” pump action “that helps drain the lymph nodes, which runs just below the surface of the skin,” says Shapland.
He advises Gua Sha Stones and nodular massages, however: “They do not have this ability to massage slightly every poros and aspect of the skin,” he says.
An effective lymphatic massage can handle the lymph node to change the shape of bent and swollen areas. The therapist uses his fingers to push fluid waste from fat cells. The threshold Legology Circu-Lite, £ 9.60 is designed to mimic their work at home with light suction in flesh in dense fat target areas. Then drag the cup in the direction of your lymph nodes, for example, your groin and armpits. It works much deeper and more targeted by brushing to move congestion and waste to expel from the tissues.
Do creams and lotions for cellulite work?
Behind when new molecular serums fell every summer, I tried them all and never noticed a difference. But according to Shapland, high levels of proven diuretics (drainage) aromatherapy and botanicals that enhance circulation such as caffeine (preferably, preferably, all year long and massage). French women, who love the filters of “leg lighting”, seem to agree.
I can’t guarantee her popular Cellu-Lite anti-cellulite oil £ 75, because my skin will not tolerate essential oils, but it gets a lot of five star reviews. Traditional cellulite gels have many of the same active but at remarkably lower levels. The most common ingredient tends to be alcohol for a satisfactory (but useless) feeling ‘tbyly’ and a temporary tightening feel.
Alternatively, you can choose body creams with collagen-shoes such as retinoids and peptides such as The treatment of the body of Murad Rotinal Redinal, £ 79: The thicker, more stable skin that promises will make the silent look less visible. But while this applies to theory, the results will be thin and slow: we talk months or even years of consistent use, as well as with facial skin.
Can you separate cellulite and fat cells with tools?
While you need a stronger manipulation other than dry body brushing to help shift the bent areas, anything that causes pain and bruising is counterproductive. “Aggressive fascia manipulation tools may be popular in social media, but science is missing,” says regenerative aesthetic expert Dr Galyna Selezneva.
The idea that you can break the fascia (connective tissue) or naturally break the fat with a hand tool is outdated, he says. “A combination of suction, cylinder and rhythmic movement helps to relax tight connective tissues, stimulate blood flow and drain the accumulation of lymphatic fluid-never make bruises,” he says.
Are nutrition and exercise exempt from cellulite?
They will not get rid of it – I have been practicing four hours a week for 35 years and still have cellulite. But the active (to keep the lymph nodes in motion) and to eat properly, makes the difference and will slow down its spread.
Cellulite has nothing to do with weight, so the diet will not help. Instead, avoid food and drink that overloads lymphatic and toxins cells such as additives, synthetic chemicals, hydrogenated fats and tons of sugar. Large culprits are highly processed foods (including “nutrition” foods). I am sure that the habit of my diet between the formative ages 15-20 has helped to create my cellulite!
Eat as fresh and rich in nutrients as possible to support your lymphia (and skin), instead of forcing it to work harder. White carbohydrates and sugar make the latter (pasta and bread encourage your body to hold water), while dark green vegetable, protein and olive oil improve the function of lymph nodes and nourish your system. Shapland swears by oatswhich is extremely cheap and “acts like Flypaper, absorbs excessive waste”.
Eating abundant water is another must dilute the lymphatic and illuminate its toxic load.
You cannot “train away” local cellulite areas by making targeted movements, such as thigh pressures or dives. Cardio, including walking, is your friend, as it is important to keep the lymphatic moving.
Taking this, when I could not run over the lock I could not run and I made 400 weighted squats and hands daily to keep them in shape, resulted in the greatest (positive) change in the shape of my feet, with stricter skin over sculptures, better than I had seen for years.
What are the effective professional clinical remedies for cellulite?
I have tried everything, and these are the only ones I would recommend.
