We are at the top of the summer, which means lighter layers, many sunscreen and happy hours everywhere. It also means the appearance of much more skin, with curves and black lines looking at the two -piece swimsuits or shorts. When looking in the mirror, some may not notice changes, while others may see a slight growth of cellulite.
It is no secret that cellulite did not have the best pr, leading many of us with the appearance that fell into our body to look up high and low to relieve. The results include a list of laundry products that claim to stabilize, tighten and eliminate cellulite completely. Fortunately we are here to calm the storm on your head. A harsh truth: cellulite cannot be completely eliminated but that box manage and treat them effectively with the right products, tools and routines at home.
In front, we used the dermatologist who was certified under the Board of Directors. Dendy Engelman to find out all about cellulite and what practices and products at home is best for treatment.
What is cellulite and how does cellulite occur on the skin?
In order not to be confused with stretch marks or “tiger strips”, as many would call them, cellulite “is a common, harmless condition of the skin that occurs when adipose cells under the skin push upwards against the connective tissue, causing the skin over it” Dr. EngelmanA certified dermatologist at Shafer Clinic. If your summer uniform is made up of swimwear and shorts, you may have noticed its appearance below the lower part of your body, including thighs, limbs and hips, “and sometimes in the abdomen or hands,” adds Dr. Engelman. “Cellulite is more widespread in women than men due to differences in how fat, muscle and connective tissue are distributed. In women, connective tissue is arranged vertically, which makes it easier for adipose cells to promote and create this appearance.
Dr. Engelman assures that cellulite is nothing to worry about. In fact, “it is a completely normal anatomical response affected by hormones (especially estrogen), genetics, age and even lifestyle factors such as nutrition and level of activity”, as aging and skin lose elasticity, cellulite can become more visible.
Can you get rid of cellulite as soon as you have it?
Short answer? No. “Cellulite is not something we can ‘completely eliminate’, but we can minimize its appearance through a combination of lifestyle practices and local or treatments in the office,” Dr. Engelman’s shares. The purchase of skin care is mature with corrective types that can be improved. “There is no treatment, local or otherwise, offers a permanent solution, as it is an important function of a healthy body.
Which ingredients are best for the treatment of cellulite?
“When it comes to treating cellulite, the most effective local ingredients are those that stimulate circulation, reduce inflammation and improve skin stability and elasticity,” says Dr. Engelman. Think of your most stable, lifting and obesity products, and there will probably be a common denominator: caffeine.
“Caffeine is one of the most popular and effective ingredients because it acts as vasoconstrictors, temporarily clenching the skin, reducing swelling and increasing blood flow to targeted areas,” he explains.
Of course, very few ingredients improve the overall appearance and texture of the skin enough such as retinol: “A vitamin A derivative, supports long -term collagen production and skin cell cycle, which helps to thicken the skin and improve its overall texture. “Botanical extracts such as Centella Asiatica, also known as Gotu Kola, are valued for their ability to improve microcirculation and support connective tissue.”
Dr. Engelman advises the use of the aforementioned ingredients, but also proposes Arnica Montana extract, which says it is not a traditional cellulite treatment, but offers impressive results. “It is known for its anti -inflammatory and soothing properties. Arnicare Roll-onwhich contains Arnica, can help reduce diversion and tenderness in areas that are prone to cellulite, especially when used after massage or physical activity, “he adds, however, that” caffeine and retinol products are one of the most studied and efficient for the skin.
What are the best practices for the treatment of cellulite?
It takes more than a cream or massage tool to perform the results you want. “The best way to manage and reduce the appearance of cellulite is through a well -rounded approach that includes lifestyle habits, skin care and, for some, office treatments.
Do you know what else helps? Water. “Maintaining hydrated is also necessary as it helps maintain the skin and supports appropriate lymphatic function.” In addition, “exercise, especially strength training, creates muscle tone and minimizes the appearance of fat deposits that contribute to cellulite,” he says, adding that dry brushing could help to enhance circulation as exfoliating.
“Finally, a balanced, anti -inflammatory diet that is low in excess sugar and processed foods can improve skin quality and reduce bloating and maintaining water, which contribute to a smoother, healthier appearance,” he advises.
When should you consider the treatments in the office?
“If cellulite is the main cause of your skin concerns and you are looking for a more dramatic, targeted improvement, professional therapies can be a change player,” Dr. Engelman explains. “One option I suggest to look at is Emtone, an approved FDA cellulite treatment that combines targeted pressure energy with radiofrequency to help tighten the skin, it works well with the stimulation of circulation, breakdown of fibers and stopping cellulose.
What are the best products for the treatment of cellulite and why?
“There are many creams and serums on the market that aims at cellulite, but the key is to find products that include active ingredients supported by science and that you will really use firmly,” he shares. This means looking beyond products traditionally designed for cellulite and paying attention to specific ingredients such as retinol, peptides and caffeine.
