While most people opt for Botox on their forehead or cheeks to maintain a youthful appearance, Kelly Ripa chooses to inject it into her jawline. The talk show host revealed her dentist recommended the treatment as she was a ‘real tooth sphinx’ who grinded her teeth at night.
During Wednesday’s installment LIVE with Kelly and Markthe couple discussed bedtime routines. Mark Conseulos teased his wife about her amused look when she turns off the lights. “You have so many things going on in your mouth,” he said. “You’ve got your retainer, you’ve got the small assembly, the thing …. You’ve got upper and lower retainers?”
“I won’t tell you because you live with me and watch me get ready for bed every night,” Kelly replied.
“I’ll let you know if I’m wearing top and bottom restraint.”
Mark then shared that “whatever it is,” it causes Ripa to insult her speech “in the wee hours of the night and the wee hours of the morning.”
However, the blonde beauty admitted at the time that her retainer was given to her by her dentist. “I was grinding my teeth,” he shared. “I had botox on my jaw because my dentist recommended it and it changed my life. It changed my life.”
He continued: “I was a real clencher of my teeth. I clench my teeth because I don’t want what I’m thinking to come out of my mouth.”
Mark offered the audience some insight into the condition, sharing that teeth grinding “can cause tooth wear. Grind your teeth down. It gives you jaw pain, muscle pain.”
“Anxiety and stress…caffeine. Pesky husbands cause it,” she added. Mark shared that the night habit can cause one to develop “those overbuilt” jaws.
“For a man, it’s good,” she said, before adding that it creates “a nice strong jawline.”
Kelly revealed that the treatment allowed her to reduce the amount of mouth accessories she had to wear at night to “up and down [retainers]without head attachment’.
“I put my retainer in. That’s what I’ve done,” he added.
Kelly’s teeth
During an episode of the show in April, Kelly explained that she has to wear a retainer because she never had braces as a child — a problem that led to 35 years to fix her dental problems.
It seems the star is no stranger to visiting the dentist and even enjoys her frequent appointments. During a 2021 episode of Live with her former co-star Ryan Seacrest, she said: “I’m a person who likes going to the dentist. I especially love Dr. Loughberg, but I like going to the dentist. I find it calming, I sleep through my teeth cleaning — no, I don’t have laughing gas. I love it. I love it.”
“So for me, the hardest part of lockdown, apart from seeing what I look like, was not having access to get my teeth cleaned every four months.”
