With GLP-1 medicines as the new normal, plastic surgeons see increased interest in bodylifts. Just a procedure is usually sought by patients with bariatric surgery, bodylifts and minimally invasive alternatives have soared to popularity. Are you ready to contact the excess skin on your lower trunk?

What is Bodylift?
According to San Antonio, plastic surgeon TX and partner Sono Bello, Patrick Schaner, MD, a modern bodylift focuses on the belly, thighs and side. “The procedure is often tailored to address the specific needs of patients and can incorporate techniques such as liposuction to describe the body,” he explains. “It usually involves removing excess skin and fat from areas such as abdomen, thighs and sides.”
The procedure is usually used for patients who have lost large amounts of weight, notes Delray Beach, plastic surgeon Daniel Crane, MD. “The most common bodylift surgery is a lower bodylift,” he says. “Most of these patients have lost a significant amount of weight and have excess skin in multiple areas, which cannot be treated with a belly on its own.”
Why do bodylifts grow in popularity?
“There has been a remarkable increase in bodylift procedures from spreading GLP-1 weight loss drugs like Ozempic,” says Dr. Schaner.
We know that these drugs can cause rapid weight loss, resulting in loose excess skin. Removing this loose skin ultimately requires surgery.
“You can’t exercise the skin away,” says McMurray, PA Plastic Surgeon, Simone V. Pautler, MD. “When you touch the back of a cat or dog, you can see their entire backs, so? This is because they have muscles on their skin that people do not have.”
The prevalence of GLP-1S also affected the age of the average patient.
“We see younger patients with loose and loss of tumor, which are issues that we usually associate with more mature patients,” explains Austin, plastic surgeon TX Johnny Franco, MD. “These patients come for regional changes, arm lifts and thigh lifts.
A new approach to bodylifts
“While we sometimes add liposuction to a bodylift for optimal description, the best candidate for a bodylift is someone who has lost the weight they are going to lose,” notes Dr. Crane. “And we want to be in this fixed weight for some time.”
Dr. Crane is not a bodylift for those who have more fat than excessive skin, but new options such as Sono Bello’s Liftex combine laser liposia with minimally invasive technology to treat fat and skin.
“The new Sono Bello lifting process It can complete the results of your massive weight loss and help you achieve the desired result, “says Dr. Schaner.” Small incisions are strategically placed to maximize fat extraction while camouflaging the resulting scars. Laser liposuction is performed to remove the remaining fat and mobilize tissues, allowing the excess skin and fat to be removed. The rest of the tissues will carefully struck in a raised position to create the lift, minimize scars and promote proper healing. “
And everything is performed under local anesthetic.
“You will be up and walking the same day, capable of repeating light exercise in two weeks and be able to exercise without restrictions in just six weeks,” explains Dr. Schaner.
Where the bodylift goes from here
“Modern bodylift does not only treat the loose skin of abdominal and lateral thighs,” explains Dr. Crane. “We are also creating an optimal body outline using an automatic delusion of the buttock, repositioning the tissue you would normally have been rejected to add volume and lift.”
And, as plastic surgery evolves to make it safer and more efficient, bodylifts are also often combined with other procedures.
“When someone is lost a lot of weight, this can cause major changes throughout his body,” notes Dr. Crane. “Especially in areas like chest, so many patients now choose to include breast increase or lifting at the same time with bodylift. The recovery time is very similar.”
