Korean medical devices have gained strong trust in the medical aesthetics market of Indonesia. Dr. Rudi Chandra, a dermatologist, notes that “most local doctors perceive Korean products as high quality at reasonable prices.” In particular, Sylfirm X, a radiofrequency micro-acupuncture device that reduces the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) in the treatment of depigmentation and acne scars, is gaining recognition as a solution suitable for Southeast Asian skin characteristics. At i-SWAM, we spoke with Dr. Rudi Chandra on his experience of adopting Sylfirm X and his outlook on the Indonesian market.

Interview with Dr. Rudi Chandra, Dermatologist, Indonesia

Q. What made you adopt the Sylfirm X and what differentiates it from the devices you used in the past?

A. Sylfirm X is a highly stable RF microneedling device that delivers consistent results. I mainly use it to treat dry skin and various types of scars and the results have been excellent. This is why I chose this device over other options.

Q. What has been your experience since introducing Sylfirm X to your clinic?

A. Our patients are extremely satisfied with this device. Previously, we relied primarily on CO₂ laser treatments, which involved extended downtime. Sylfirm X involves less discomfort and offers a much faster recovery. As a result, patients tend to prefer it over conventional treatments.

Q. Considering the skin characteristics and patient preferences in Indonesia, for which indications do you find Sylfirm X particularly effective?

A. For Indonesian patients, I believe that pigmentary disorders represent the most effective indication. Sylfirm X causes minimal irritation or injury, so it does not cause PIH. It is also extremely effective for acne scars. These two conditions are the most common cases in Indonesia, and Sylfirm X offers excellent results as a stand-alone treatment, with even greater synergy when combined with other methods.

Q. How would you describe patient satisfaction and feedback on Sylfirm X treatments in Indonesia?

A. To date, patients are really satisfied with the results. They appreciate being able to resume daily activities and work immediately after the procedure. Despite minimal downtime, they notice their skin improving day by day, which contributes to high satisfaction.

Q. Could you share a particularly memorable case or one that achieved great results with Sylfirm X?

A. The most memorable cases were patients with scars and stretch marks. A patient was concerned about stretch marks before an entrance exam at the Police Academy. After several treatment sessions, we achieved very good results. Due to time constraints, the stretch marks did not disappear completely, but there was a noticeable improvement within a short period of time.

Q. What is the perception and demand for Korean aesthetic medical devices in the Indonesian market?

A. I believe that Korean aesthetic medical devices have already established a strong presence in the Indonesian market. Most doctors are familiar with Korean products and perceive them as high quality at reasonable prices. Compared to products from other countries, Korean devices receive extremely favorable reviews.

Q. How do you see the growth potential of the RF microneedle market in Indonesia?

A. This market is becoming more and more popular. Most clinics now have at least one RF microneedling device, albeit from different manufacturers. Radiofrequency microneedling treatments at various price points have already gained widespread acceptance.

Q. Do you have any expectations or suggestions for the future development of ViOL and Sylfirm X?

A. It is necessary to expand the clinical indications. Currently, it is used for hair loss, acne, pigmentation and scars. In the future, a greater focus on cellulite is needed. Cellulite treatment remains difficult, making Sylfirm X a potentially valuable option. To achieve this, I believe parameter expansion will be required.
