Former Aston Villa star Ahmed Elmohamady says he feels “five years younger” and “like a different man” after showing off his new hair transplant.
The 38-year-old former Egypt defender admitted he tried to cover up his baldness by wearing caps before deciding to take a new approach.
The former Sunderland and Hull City player said he can now style his hair differently after hiding “a bit of crap”.
“I have a very public role as a global ambassador for Aston Villa and I do a lot of TV work and it’s important to look good,” Elmohamady said.
“Before I was self-confident about my hair and realizing how thin it was and it really affected my confidence.”
He started his hair transplant 10 months ago, but said the full results will be felt by Christmas.
Elmohamady had the procedure done at DHI Global’s clinic in central London.

“Before I was self-conscious about my hair and realizing how thin it was, and that really affected my confidence,” Elmohamady explained.
Elmohamady added: “I wore a hat for a couple of days after the operation and then I went back to my normal working day.
“The scars healed very quickly. They literally harvest the donor hairs and then implant them directly into your bald spots with very little fuss.
There is very little discomfort to the scalp and the end results are completely natural. This is very important to me. I wanted my hair back to the way it was before I went bald,” Elmohamady recalls.
He is ecstatic that the results are permanent and will last for the rest of his life, saying: “I have my hairline back for good and I can wear my hair the way I did when I was younger.”
Elmohamady wants to inspire other balding men, saying there is no shame or stigma attached to the transplant.
He described his results as “natural”, saying you wouldn’t suspect he’d had one done.
“They’ve given me back the hair of my twenties,” Elmohamady said.
It’s not just Elmohamady who is thrilled with his new look – his wife loves it too and plenty of footballers want to know where he got his transplant.

Former England captain Wayne Rooney was the first high-profile footballer to go public with his hair transplant procedure.
This led to many others following in his footsteps, including former teammate Wayne Bridge, who also had his DHI procedure last year.
A DHI Global spokesperson said: “We increased the density of Ahmed Elmohamady’s hair at his hairline and at the front of the scalp where hair loss is most severe.
“We have restored hair where hair loss is more visible and he looks years younger when he appears on TV.
“We will do a second procedure around the crown area next year to cover the less visible bald spots. Then Ahmed’s hair will be fully restored.’
