People who are thinking of taking Botox are called upon to take precautions after various cases after aesthetic processes.
Britain’s Health Service (UKHSA) reports that “several” people from County Durham and Darlington has suffered bad reactions following Botulinum toxin procedures, also known as Botox.
The victims have developed all their symptoms a few weeks after the injection was taken – but so far evidence does not indicate that the product is infected.
Reactions include a severe drop in upper eye caps, double vision, difficulty swallowing, speech and lethargy.
UKHSA advises doctors to look for polycarbonate for people who may have recently taken an aesthetic process so that they can be given the appropriate anti-toxin.

Dr. Joanne Darke from UKHSA said: “Botulism is a rare infection, but it can be serious. It is caused by toxins produced by Botulinum Clostridium bacteria.
“These toxins (but not bacteria) are the active ingredient in botox and similar products. Effective treatments are available.
“If you had a recent treatment with a plant -based toxin and have symptoms such as ingestion or eyelash difficulty, contact NHS 111 for further tips and seek treatment.
“It is important to check so you can have peace and treatment if needed. It is also important to go to a licensed trainee.
UKHSA reminds anyone who examines an aesthetic treatment that practitioners should wear protective equipment and wash their hands, should perform a pre-convention, should be ready to share their qualifications, and should require consent.
What is Botulism? Symptoms and risks
Botulism is a rare but life -threatening condition caused by toxins produced by Botulinum Clostridium bacteria.
Toxins attack the nervous system that causes paralysis.
Symptoms can take several days to develop or appear within a few hours.
Depending on the precise types of botulism, some people have initial symptoms such as feeling sick, sick (vomiting), stomach cramps, diarrhea or constipation.
Other symptoms include:
- Lasted eyelashes
- Blurry or double vision
- Facial weakness
- Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia)
- Speech
- Breathing difficulties
Babies suffering from sausage can have a weak cry, find it difficult to feed or have a floppy, neck and limbs.
Botulism is a serious situation – if you or someone you know you have symptoms, go to your nearest A&E or call 999.
Amanda Healy, County Durham’s Public Health Director, said: “We work closely with her UKHSA colleagues to investigate the cause of these unwanted actions and to ensure that all possible measures will be taken to avoid more people not to relax.
“I would encourage anyone who recently undertaken an aesthetic process and experiences any of the symptoms mentioned to contact NHS 111. ‘
