A wisdom tooth was extracted right in front of its flight to China – and then the real adversity began to descend to Amanda Anisimova.
Arriving at the final at the US Open had taken a lot of it, and after a few extra days away, Anisimova felt less than 100 percent when he took the stadium at China Open. She won her first race easily, but a growing pain in her leg and Moschari let her wonder.
“I think it was obvious in one of the struggles where I was in pain,” Anisimova said. “I was just hurting all day when I was walking. These were the most difficult times because you are trying to have a conversation with yourself and understand what is the best decision to make.”
The decision to play for the repayment of good Sunday with the title in Beijing.
A few years ago, these conditions could paralyze it. That was why he was removed from the game for an important break. Now, at the age of 24, Anisimova has developed a spiritual force that could compete with the back of the line.
He survived a 24-note Tiebreak against Zhang Shuai in the third round and produced an unforgettable return against Karolina Muchova in the fourth. The top 10 wins against Jasmine Paolini and Coco Gauff (in 58 minutes) sent her to the final against Linda Noskova.
Anisimova won the first set 6-0, but Noskova returned to get the second set and served 3-2 in the third. Anisimova, who is quickly evolving into a superstar, rally to win the last four games of the match. This is a beautiful set of Bookends.
In its eighth season at the Hologic WTA Tour Level, Anisimova garnered the first two WTA 1000 titles in February in Doha and now, more than seven months later, Beijing. Achieving the finals at Wimbledon and the US Open were also career discoveries. He has ranked 4th place in the world and has been beaten each of the three players who have been ranked in front of it in the last three months.
Most importantly, in this naturally demanding game, it has become a true professional.
“I think your mind can play tricks to you,” said Anisimova. “Tell yourself that you can’t go on, if there are some pains you have. I think the spiritual game is so important to an athlete, I still learn constantly and try to improve in this section.”
If you have not been closely followed, Anisimova 2025 numbers are top:
- Since the crib started in June, only Iga Swiatek (27) has more than 26-wins of Anisimova.
- It is one of the only three women who will hit more than 1,500 winners this year. Aryna Sabalenka (1,772) is the first, followed by Elena Rybakina (1,557) and Anisimova (1,542). He had 187 in Beijing, second only to Clara Tauson (196) in WTA 1000.
- Anisimova is the first and younger American to capture the 1/WTA-1000 multi-level titles at a time by Serena Williams (2002, 2015).
“We as athletes do not feel great day, day,” said Anisimova. “I think this is only part of the learning process. With every race, I am surprised and I try to learn how to work with natural pain, pushing myself into hard struggles.
“I am very happy to have been able to stick it and also to trust myself and my team, who informed me about my body.
Anisimova then answered journalists’ questions:
You can get us through what it is like to go through New York, take off your tooth, win in Beijing.
Anisimova: Yes, several weeks have passed for me here, for sure. I feel like I learned a lot about myself. I think I can get a lot of positives and examine them as a great progress for me just to calculate ways to face some challenges and promote myself in times when it feels like I can’t go further. I feel that in this sense I learned that I am stronger than I think. I didn’t expect to get my wisdom teeth. I was told that I shouldn’t have removed them. I was just amazed at me (smiling). Yes, I’m glad it’s over.
How does this week compare to Beijing with what you could do in Doha? How different are these two routes or how similar are they?
Anisimova: I think they really have some similarities and obviously differences. In Doha, I was right there with my coach tennis and not my full team. In this sense it was a little different and very unexpected there. Super special week obviously. I am very happy to have been able to share this moment with my full team here. Yes, it was awesome. I think this week, I was driving a great deal of confidence because I have had a great year so far.
I think when you won the league point, you celebrated with your full team. I noticed your coach [Hendrik Vleeshouwers] He is the most emotional guy. Almost shouted. Is it really crying?
Anisimova: You should tell him because he says he is not very emotional. Yes, we would say differently. I am sure he is really happy, as well as everyone else in my team. I mean, it’s a huge victory for all of us. I think we are just excited to continue to continue.
You mentioned you so much. Is there any special reason or similarities between you and Panda?
Anisimova: Exactly that striped by my name, like Amanda Panda. This was a nickname my best friend, Priscilla, when we first met. It’s a funny joke. I think he was the first one to get me a panda here. I continued to pick them up. I love the animal. It’s super cute. Hopefully I can continue to take more. I am sure I will reach a limit soon. I will definitely carry a bag full of pandas on the road back, this is for sure.
Linda Noskova said in a press conference that when you play so, it is sometimes very good. What do you think when you hear people running for your game?
Anisimova: I feel that now I’m really able to get it like a compliment. I feel like playing with my full momentum. I do all the right things and work very hard as opposed to a few years ago, when I felt like I was not competing or playing my maximum. I used to put these messages or opinions aside and I don’t really get it. Sure now, it’s very nice to hear other people say that.
