How many of us are concerned with repetitive fillings and implants for our damaged teeth as they have a limited range? Now, thanks to researchers at King’s College London, you could one day develop D
Edit in this new discovery in regenerative medicine, Xuechechen Zhang from dentistry schools, oral and craniofacial science, King’s College London, stated that “fills are not the best solution for tooth restoration. Function, possibly leading to long -term complications.”
He and his team are examining the transplantation of young teeth cells in place of the missing tooth and letting them grow in the mouth. “Alternatively, we could create the whole tooth in the laboratory before we put it in the patient’s mouth. For both options, we must start the very early tooth development process,” said Dr. Zhang.
How is this research transformation?
Laboratory teeth It is expected to be more durable and resistant to disintegration and since they are made of human cells, they will grow in the jaw, reducing the risk of rejection. Besides, laboratory teeth can repair and renew themselves by limiting your dentist visits.
“If this experiment succeeds in larger tests, it will completely change the way dental treatments are designed and followed worldwide,” says Dr. Bibhakar Ranjan, a dentist and researcher in Bonn, Germany. He also adds that this discovery will not only reduce the cost of dental treatment, but also give something biologically compatible, aesthetically pleasing and stronger natural teeth to patients.

How did researchers cultivate teeth in a laboratory?
The researchers created a special hydrogel uterus that allows cells to communicate with each other. “This means that one cell can communicate with another to begin the differentiation in one tooth cell. This mimics the environment of developing teeth and allows scientists to recreate the process of developing teeth in the laboratory,” according to the study. Thus, when cultivated cells are inserted into the human jaw, they will be able to send signals to each other to begin the process of forming a tooth. The best part is that this new matrix does not disturb other biological processes.
What does it mean for India
India is one of the countries with a large number of dental patients. “Many people lose teeth because of the cavities and even the lack of dental therapy. If this discovery works and is available for everyone, it could be a permanent solution,” says Dr. Ranjan. In short, our teeth could be repaired and heal the same way as a cut on the skin.
