La Cienega Design Quarter Legends 2024: May 7-9
The La Cienega design district “Legends” Eventwhich celebrates all things interior design, makes its annual bow on May 7. This year’s theme is “Rooms in Bloom.”
The LCDQ celebration will kick off on May 7 with a gala at the Sunset Tower Hotel in honor of Pamela Shamshiriknown for her work on the homes of Anne Hathaway, Paul McCartney and Ryan Murphy.
The design festival attracts interior design professionals and enthusiasts for two days (May 8-9) of dynamic panels, exclusive lunches, experiential offerings, and compelling keynotes. Highlights (many of which require “VIP registration”) are:
— A conversation between longtime friends Robert Ruffino, who has worn the editor-in-chief hat of both Beautiful house And She DecorAnd Alfredo Paredes who, during his tenure at Ralph Lauren, shaped our ideas of classic American style. – Interior decorator Madeleine Stuartwhose client list includes Jason Alexander, Larry David and Lisa Henson (as a child, Stuart would urge her father, director Mel Stuart, to bring her his favorite book, Charlie and the chocolate factory on screen; she and her brother make cameos at the end of Gene Wilder’s adaptation).
The LCDQ event focuses on transforming premier showroom windows into retail-only showcases along La Cienega Boulevard by top interior designers, including Jake Arnold, Windsor SmithAnd Martin and Brockett“From hotels to parties, from sets to restaurants, from fashion to art, Legends celebrates the myriad ways we are all inspired by great design,” says Rebecca Birdwell, design industry strategist and producer of the event.
Design Miami.LA: May 16-20
“It seems fitting to kick off 2024, which we’ve dubbed our year of evolution, with our inaugural exhibition in Los Angeles,” says Jen Roberts, CEO of Design Miami.
Cementing the city’s place as one of the pillars of the global art world, alongside the fair’s iterations in Basel, Miami and Paris, which debuted last year, the invitation-only event, Design Miami.LA debuts May 16, commandeering a Holmby Hills estate designed by famed architect Paul R. Williams and currently owned by Lubov Azria, the widow of Max Azria, founder of the BCBG Max Azria clothing brand (Ms. Azria, who is preparing to auction the house through Auction Conciergenow runs the invitation-only Maison Lune art fair in Venice.
Led by Curatorial Director Ashlee Harrison, the three-acre property will host a group of international design galleries and site-specific exhibitions of historical and contemporary furniture, lighting and art from collectible design heavyweights from around the world, ranging from local favorites The Future Perfect, Twentieth and James De Wulf to Mexico City’s Atra, London’s Charles Burnand Gallery and Fumi Gallery, Paris’ Negropontes Gallery, New York’s Todd Merrill and global gallery Carpenters Workshop, among others.
The event, which is themed “Living with Design,” also pays tribute to Los Angeles-based artist Peter Shire. Henrik Purienne, the event’s global artistic director, said, “His work not only reflects the vibrant and eclectic spirit of Los Angeles, but also continues to inspire and spark dialogue within the broader creative community.”
LDV 8899 Beverly: Ephemeral design residence
After a successful – but too short – run on Robertson Boulevard, the invitation-only design platform LDV has launched a second pop-up, LDV on 8899 Beverly: Design in residencewhich will run until the end of the month.
The fascinating collection of Art Deco, 1970s and contemporary furniture and accessories by designers and artists – curated by branding expert Guido Callarelli and artistic director and curator Birta Ólafsdóttir – includes pieces by Sami Hayek, Andy Warhol, André Sornay, Romeo Rega and Massimo Vignelli and channels the chic, carefree spirit embodied in Federico Fellini’s 1960 film. The good lifeThe impeccably restored offerings reflect the glamour of its new location: Originally designed by Richard Dorman and built in 1964 to house ICM (until its move to Beverly Hills in 1992), it was recently remastered to feature a collection of luxurious condominiums, penthouses and single-family homes, courtesy of Olson Kundig.
