Sanitary care officials in the United Kingdom are investigating reports of dozens of people suffering from potentially life -threatening situation following Botox procedures in northeast England, as well as allegations of illegal sale of Botox products.
The local confidence of the United Kingdom (NHS) National Health Service (NHS) in Durham has set a notice on June 13 about several people looking for medical care following adverse reactions to Botox cosmetic procedures.
As the incident came to light last week for the first time, 28 people reported symptoms of sausage after taking cosmetic procedures, UKHSA told CNN in CNN in a statement on Friday.
Post -war is a life -threatening condition caused by toxins produced by Botulinum Clostridium bacteria that attack the nervous system and cause paralysis.
“These toxins (but not bacteria) are the active ingredient in botox and similar products,” Dr. Joanne Darke, a health protection consultant at UKHSA, said in a statement, adding that it is “important to go to an authorized exercise”.
Hierogeneous mealing is a type of sausage that occurs when too much in the cosmetic form, botox, is injected into a muscle. Botox is a leading cosmetic treatment for wrinkles, as well as medical diseases such as migraines and excessive sweating.
UKHSA said the reactions reported included symptoms of severe fall of upper eyelids, double vision, difficulty swallowing, speech and lethargy.
Other symptoms of albeit can include facial muscle weakness.
Botulism requires immediate medical care and is fatal in 5-10% of cases, according to NHS website.
While most people make a complete recovery with treatment, which usually involves taking injections with antioxins, without quick care, paralysis can spread to the muscles used to control breathing.
While investigations into the cause of cases continue, UKHSA said that “the evidence so far does not indicate that the product used is infected.
“Practitioners linked to most of the reported cases are no longer doing these procedures,” said Dr. Simon Howard, a health protection consultant in UKHSA in the statement.
“However, this does not mean that we may not see more cases, as the symptoms can last up to four weeks to grow, though we now see the number of cases coming from the reduction that encourages the news,” he continued.
Howard informed people to ensure that they are taking precautions when searching for aesthetic processes and informed anyone with symptoms to seek medical care.
The United Kingdom’s Health Regulatory Organization (MHRA) told CNN on Friday that it is investigating “allegations surrounding the illegal sale and supply of Botox products in the northeast and want to assure the public very seriously”.
The organization encouraged people in the UK who believe they had side effects from medicine or received false stocks to report it to Yellow Card program.
“Our criminal enforcement unit is working hard to identify those involved in illegal drug trade and take strong enforcement action where necessary.
“Botulinum (botox) toxin is only a prescription drug and it should only be available in the United Kingdom under the supervision of a doctor or other skilled healthcare professional,” he continued.
In the United States, it was a growing cluster referenced In Massachusetts earlier this month. The state health ministry said it is investigating 10 cases of suspected medical sausages related to Botox procedures executed in a spa, Rodrigo Beauty.
