The lip growth market is expected to reach $ 11.6 billion by 2030.1 Although hyaluronic acid fillers are the most common type of lip procedure, an alternative method, “Lip Flip”, has increased in popularity in recent years, with #lipflip hashtag gaining 64.4 million views on Tiktok since July 2021.2 A flip lip involves the injection of neurotoxin Botulinum A (Bont-A) into the upper muscle, forming a more natural “pout” in the upper mouth. The technique is less expensive than a traditional skin rim, but the results are more temporary than 8 to 12 weeks. Both methods have similar side effects and bruises at the injection site, but the lips do not require much post-processing after care.
“” Flips lips “are ideal for patients who want more fuller lips but do not want filled lips, have excessive gum appearance while smiling, having a upper lip with their smile or prefers relatively short -term or temporary results,” according to the authors.
A new timeless analysis has evaluated the shifts of public interest over the last decade on these minimally invasive lip growth strategies.3 The researchers used the Google Trends database to evaluate the historical monthly search volumes of “Lip Filler” and “Lip Flip” from January 2014 to January 2024.
Both search terms had similar increases in commitment over the decade. However, the full lips was more consistently sought with an average increase of 75% of the relative search volume per month. In contrast, the Lip Flip had an average increase of 33%. In addition, the relevant search tumors were quantified as 12.1 for Flip Lip and 30.4 to fill the lips, giving “Lip Flip” with a steadily lower Google search volume over time (P.<0.001).
Even with these differences, both terms have seen similar standards over the years. For example, both saw a rapid decline at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, between February 2020 and April 2020. On the contrary, between September 2022 and February 2023, there was a sharp increase in searches of the two categories.
Even when the lips grow in a public interest, it remains secondary to the lip of filling, according to these data. However, research is limited, as the only use of Google trends does not provide information on patient factors such as demographics, satisfaction and results. Inclusion of clinical trials and data in future research could enhance these results and provide a thinner perspective on these procedures.
“This reveals the need for future research that also” also emphasizes the need for future research that evaluates socio -demographic factors that play a role in increasing cosmetic lips, allowing us to better understand the populations that seek these processes and accessibility.
