A dentist warned because you should never use these common ingredients in your teeth
Using homemade treatments to whiten your teeth could actually cause serious damage, one dentist warned.
Emergency warning comes after a survey revealed that fewer than half (48 %) of 1,000 British has been able to secure an NHS dentist appointment in the last two years, according to Ipsos.
The study found that 26 percent of those who were unable to make an appointment said they had been treated, while 19 % said they went abroad for treatment.
Eddie Crouch, President of Dental linkHe said: “Desperate people arrive for pliers or cheap flights because for many dental NHS have efficiently stopped.
“This service may have a future, but only if the government is willing to get pace and maintain its promises.”
Dr. Rizwan Mahmood, a dentist, doctor and co -founder of the luxury dental clinics Ruh Dental, has warned not to take things in your hands to brighten your smile.
Social media platforms, such as Tiktok, are flooded with diy hacks to whiten your teeth using ingredients such as lemon juice and baking soda. But Dr. Mahmood says these products should be avoided.
“I take it. Everyone wants a brighter smile, but homemade treatments such as lemon juice, baking soda or hydrogen peroxide can do more harm than good,” says Dr. Mahmood. “These hard substances can erode the enamel and make teeth more sensitive.
“For safe, effective whitening. Talk to your dentist about professional treatments or approved whitening products,” he adds.
Products that buy teeth purchased above the bench can only contain only 0.1 % hydrogen peroxide, according to the oral health institution. However, an expert warned that some products available for purchase are not adjusted correctly.
“While ordering an online bleaching kit can be easier and faster, it can be very harmful to your teeth, as they may contain dangerous levels of hydrogen peroxide that could cause significant damage to the protective enamel in your teeth,” says Nyree Whitley.
Whitley also warns that a common habit could also harm enamel in your teeth, which plays a vital role in protecting your teeth from decomposition of teeth. According to Whitley, you should wait an hour after breakfast before brushing your teeth.
“Although eating breakfast can overcome our teeth brushing in our morning routine, it is wise to brush your teeth before eating to protect your teeth. After eating, your teeth takes a while to mix,” Whitley explains.
“This is especially true when you consume food or drink high in acidity, such as orange juice or jam. If you brush your teeth less than an hour after eating, you are more at risk of erosion in your teeth enamel,” he adds.
