Colombian-American actress Sofia Vergara is returning to screens with Netflix’s upcoming drama, Griselda. The six-episode series sees Sofia playing the lead role of Miami’s creepy drug queen, Griselda Blanco.

Netflix released the trailer for the show on YouTube on November 30, 2023. The trailer offers an in-depth look into the life of the Colombian drug cartel leader, popularly known as “The Godmother.” It has already been seen by 31,000 people and appreciated by 1.9,000 of them.
The drama will air on January 25.
It opens with a court scene in which a woman says that “Griselda Blanco owns Miami and has been distributing cocaine” for three years. A man next to her adds: “Ms. Blanco’s operation was effective, deadly and incredibly successful.”
As on-screen text reminds viewers that the drama is based on real events, Griselda says, “There are a lot of women who leave the man but not the woman. I swear I know what I’m doing .” The trailer cuts to a clip of Griselda speaking to a group of men and women outside a motel.
“It’s dreamland. We have the power to bring excitement back to their boring lives,” she says.
However, with the rise of an empire, the number of enemies increases and Griselda faces their wrath. When she tries to make a drug deal with a man, he says, “I’m going to tell all the dealers in Miami not to touch your coke.”
“A woman is behind all this. Draw the right card, the whole house is collapsing,” says a woman as a photo of Griselda is visible on a criminal investigation wall.
While her friend warns her about people asking about her everywhere, Griselda doesn’t back down without a fight. “After everything I’ve been through, I’m not going to give it up for nothing. Do you want to see how far I’ll go?”
Then we see a number of headlines describing her as “queen”, “innovator”, “mother” and “killer”.
The series was created by Eric Newman, who also helped create Narcos and Narcos: Mexico, and is directed by Andres Baiz. In addition to playing the lead role, Sofia is the executive producer of the series, with Latin music star Carolina Giraldo playing Carla, Griselda’s most trusted confidante.
