Brooke Shields has accused a male surgeon of performing vaginal resuscitation on her without the actress’ consent, calling the move “a form of rape”.
The 59-year-old has suffered, bled and suffered since high school because of the length of her labia and has now spoken out against a doctor who she says gave a “little bonus” during the operation.
She says in her upcoming memoir Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman that she was recommended to undergo lip reduction to correct her chronic problems.
But the Blue Lagoon star was rightly furious as she did not consent to what happened in the surgery.
Brooke said that after going under the knife, she had a check-up with her surgeon in Beverly Hills, during which he “proudly” informed her that he had added “a little twin” that she hadn’t consented to.
The male doctor had given the Blue Lagoon star a vaginal rejuvenation, reducing the average diameter of the vagina – a procedure done mainly for sexual reasons.
What is vaginal resuscitation?
Vaginal rejuvenation consists of surgical and non-surgical treatments that tighten the skin around your vagina or tighten the vaginal canal.
There are several types of vegan rejuvenation procedures:
-
Chiroplasty – when the lips are reshaped, a procedure Brooke said she had done when the surgeon also performed a vaginoplasty without her consent
- Colpoplasty – tightens or repairs the vaginal canal, often done after childbirth
- Clitoral hood reduction – to remove the extra skin covering the clitoris
- Monsplasty – removes fatty tissue from the pubic area
- Vuloplasty – reshapes the external genitalia (the vulva)
- Perineoplasty – strengthens the perineum, which is the space between the vagina and the anus
Brooke added in her book that she was “stunned” by the “irreversible” procedure, which she called an “invasion”. He also compared it to “some kind of rape.”
In a chat with Us Weekly, Brooke said: “Nothing was looking like it needed to be tighter or smaller or firmer or younger, especially there.”
The Endless Love star didn’t tell her husband Chris Henchy, 60, about the revival for “the longest time” as she felt “ashamed” of the experience.
She added that she has now chosen to “share this very personal information” with her fans, despite it being “very graphic” and “too much”.
Brooke said: “If we want to change the way we approach and talk about women’s health, then we need to highlight the uncomfortable but very real issues. Shame is no longer an option.’
Booke Shields Is Not Allowed To Get Old comes out on January 14, and Brooke previously shared that she hoped it would help start a conversation about how middle age can be life’s first priority.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the title of her memoir, Brooke told Real Simple: “It’s something I’ve felt for a long time that people really imprint on me from a certain time in my life.
“The more I talk to women over 40, the more I realize that some of this youth is chasing not just for themselves, but for other people.
“We’re not allowed to just grow up and live our lives and be okay with it.”
