Image-conscious men are flocking to a North Wales clinic to get Botox injections and fillers, according to one of the stars of a hit S4C series.
Former nurse Nayema Khan Williamswhich specializes in non-surgical cosmetic treatments at its bases in Colwyn Bay and Felinheli, near Bangor, revealed that the procedures have become increasingly popular with men in recent years.
Nayema, from Caernarfon, was speaking alongside husband Osian after filming their contributions to the latest episode of Gogglebocs Cymru.
The show – where ordinary people express their views on a range of TV programs – is broadcast on S4C on Wednesdays at 9pm.
According to the mother of two children Nayema, that the men who visited her Renovo Aesthetics Clinicians were mostly aged between 30 and 50 years.
He said: “Looking good is so important to my clients and they come from all over North Wales to see me, with some coming from as far afield as London and even Dubai.
“We have quite a few male clients and they like to take care of themselves and age gracefully like women with Botox and they want a bit of that too. They don’t want to look old and this boosts their confidence
“Everyone is different and everyone has different reasons for wanting fillers. Some of them say they don’t want to look old and want to put the aging process on hold, at least for a while. Some of them come alone while others visit with their wives and partners,” he said.
She and Osian have been regular partners since the first series of Gogglebocs Cymru and the reaction to their appearances has been “very positive”.
Osian said: “It has led to us being recognized more often on the street as well as in the shops. Of course we live in the Caernarfon area where lots of people speak Welsh so it’s to be expected I guess
“I was in a supermarket in Bangor and a young student said she’d seen me in Gogglebocs Cymru and one of the boys at the till added he thought it was me.”
Osian is a tennis coach and runs a club for aspiring champions at the Arfon Tennis Center in Caernarfon. He and Nayema have high hopes that their eldest daughter, Arimia, will become a household name in the coming years. The six-year-old trains regularly at the Swansea Tennis Academy and has already taken part in training and matches across Europe.
Gogglebocs Cymru is produced by two Gwynedd-based television production companies, Cwmni Da, in Caernarfon, and Chwarel, from Cricieth.
It is the first time that Studio Lambert and Channel 4 have licensed the Gogglebox franchise to another UK-based broadcaster.
The program is filmed in the homes of the cast as they watch the selected programs of the week.
They cover a wide range of programs from S4C, other channels and streaming services ranging from exciting dramas to popular quiz shows.
The footage is then edited ready for broadcast on Wednesday evening and narrated by comedian and broadcaster Tudur Owen.
Series producer Huw Maredudd, of Cwmni Da, said: “This is a continuation of the series that started before Christmas with the same group of people who were involved before.
“There have been some great moments during these programs and there have been some great comments about the various TV programs and there has been a warm response to them on social media.
“The viewing figures have also been excellent and the programs we present are also enjoying a boost in their ratings.
“Of course, we don’t expect that everyone will enjoy all the programs shown, but we hope that everyone has fun watching the programs gathered around the TV together.”
Hu added that because the series is continuing, there won’t be any new elements in the programs, but he expects to give the cast and viewers a few surprises.
“Something we’re doing for the first time is watching a live program. The annual Can i Gymru program is broadcast live on S4C on St David’s Day, March 1 and we will be watching it with the regulars and getting their reactions to it next Wednesday,” he said.
Gogglebocs Cymru is on S4C on Wednesdays at 9pm. English subtitles are available and the program can also be viewed on S4C Clic, BBC iPlayer and other streaming platforms.
