Congratulations to Lando Norris who took the first victory of his Formula 1 career at the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday May 5. In his 110th F1 race, the 24-year-old beat world champion Max Verstappen.
As he celebrated his first victory, it was clear that Lando had been waiting a while for this moment to come to fruition. “About the time! What a ride. It took a while,” he said. “Finally, I managed to do it.”
So, as the F1 driver celebrates his victory, let’s look back at his life away from the Paddock…
Born in Bristol, Lando is the son of stock trader Adam Norris, who came in at number 18 in the rankings. Bristol Rich List 2016 after amassing a personal fortune of £205million.
The racing driver has two younger sisters and an older brother and it’s clear his family is cheering him on from the sidelines. Following his recent victory, his beloved father spoke to Aerial sports about his son’s victory.
“It’s beautiful, it’s beautiful. But I think the other dads… I just asked Lewis’ dad to give me a text and we went through a lot. And it’s interesting to know, as a parent, how many hours you spend supporting them,” he said.
Although he became Fernando Alonso’s teammate in the 2018 24 Hours of Daytona motor race when he was just 18 and competed in his first F1 event a year later, racing wasn’t the star’s first love.
“I started horseback riding, so I started on all fours. But then I turned to quad biking. I was a big fan. Then I really got into motocross,” he said. British GQ in 2022.
But since discovering his talent in racing, Lando’s career has gone from strength to strength and in 2022 he has signed a four-year deal with McLaren. The four-year contract is believed to be worth £80m, according to Bloomberg.
During his time in the spotlight, the racing driver has spoken about the pressures of working in Formula 1 and in 2021 he appeared on the This morning couch where he discussed all things mental health.
“I guess people, when they just watch TV, don’t realize a lot of the things that a driver goes through,” he said. “And it’s a bit of a shame, but there are more and more programs now that allow you to see what the pilot is like behind the scenes and the pressure and stress they have to deal with.
“Especially at my age, when I come to Formula 1 at 19, a lot of attention is on you. So, dealing with all that stuff took a toll on me.
Outside of the F1 circuit, Lando likes to stay busy and is the founder of “entertainment, athletic and clothing brand” Quadrant. Co-owned by YouTuber WillNE, the brand sells clothing including hoodies, hats, and shorts.
And speaking of YouTube, the McLaren driver has more than a million subscribers on the site where he occasionally shares “LandoLOG” which provide insight into his daily life. Meanwhile, his second YouTube channel, Lando Norris Plays, has 388,000 subscribers and sees him playing different video games.
If that wasn’t enough, he has two million followers on TikTok and over eight million on Instagram.
Career aside, Lando reportedly has a £20million mansion in Surrey, according to the Daily Mail. However, in 2021, he revealed that he was moving to Monaco and was “excited” to see what the move had in store for him.
“Say hello to my new home!” The place is not finished yet but I will live here in Monaco when I am not at the factory or at the track next year. I will receive the keys at the end of next month so I hope to move in soon. Really excited for this next chapter! “, he wrote in an Instagram post.
The F1 star was previously in a relationship with Portuguese model Luisinha Oliveira, although the couple ended their romance in 2022. Taking to Instagram to announce the sad news, Lando paid tribute to his ex-girlfriend ” incredible and strong.”
