Got some new chompers.
The controversial rapper formerly known as Kanye West, who has spread anti-Semitic rhetoric for which he has since apologized, took to his Instagram Story on Wednesday to show off a pair of titanium grills with pointy fangs, according to Los Angeles Times and Today.com. In a separate image, he compared the look to Jaws, the villain played by Richard Kiel in Roger Moore’s late 70s “James Bond,” “The Spy Who Loved Me” and “Moonraker.”
Despite speculation that the dental implant procedure involved the removal of Ye’s actual teeth, USA TODAY can confirm that this was not the case.
A source familiar with the situation but not authorized to speak publicly told USA TODAY on Thursday that those fixed prostheses are “fixed and permanent” but do not require the removal of his teeth.
However, they are not veneers or grills.
The source called the fixed prosthesis “experimental dentistry” that Ye designed with professional help. The product is mainly made of titanium and also includes palladium and platinum in various areas. Dr. Thomas Connelly, a dentist based in Beverly Hills and New York who has worked with many celebrities, fabricated the piece and installed it.
Connelly confirmed at Pop culture outlet complex that Ye “didn’t have his teeth pulled” and that he “still has a full set of teeth. Healthy and happy.”
USA TODAY has reached out to Connelly for comment.
Ye’s daughter North West is showing off her own grills
North West, the 10-year-old daughter Ye shares with ex-wife Kim Kardashian, showed off her own roasts this week as well.
On the TikTok account she shares with Kardashian, West posted a “photo dump” of 19 images of herself, her mom and friends. In the third photo, a selfie, West pulls her lips to reveal two of her top teeth and a row of six of her bottom teeth that have accessories.
Ye is set to release his 11th studio album, “Vultures” – a joint project with frequent collaborator Ty Dolla $ign – soon. It will be the artist’s first record since anti-Semitic remarks he made in 2022 put his music and fashion careers on hold.
The title track made its streaming debut on November 22 and drew backlash over Ye’s lyrics about sleeping with Jewish women.
After Ye apologized on social media last month for his anti-Semitic behavior, the Anti-Defamation League said in a statement to USA TODAY at the time: “After he caused untold damage by using his enormous influence and platform to poison countless minds with vicious anti-Semitism and hatred. an apology in Hebrew can be the first step in a long journey to make amends to the Jewish community and all those it has hurt.
“Ultimately, actions will speak louder than words, but this initial act of contrition is welcome.”
