Dick Gregory unfortunately passed away on Saturday August 19, his family confirms on Instagram. He was 84 years old.
The stand-up comedian became famous in the 1960s for attacking racism through satirical comedy and was an outspoken civil rights activist.
“It is with immense sadness that the Gregory family confirms that their father, comedy legend and civil rights activist, Mr. Dick Gregory, left this earth tonight in Washington, DC. The family appreciates the outpouring of support and love and respectfully requests privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.
