Worried about receding forehead hairline? It can be natural or due to some underlying conditions. However, modern medical science offers several options for the regeneration of our hair. One of them is hair transplantation.
It should be noted that people lose 50-150 hairs daily. This is a normal physiological process. Hair grows back quickly, so we rarely notice it. If regeneration stops or slows down, bald patches appear on our heads.
Almost everyone experiences some type of hair loss during their lifetime. This is part of aging.
Hair transplants are becoming increasingly popular as a way to restore our hairline. It’s not something very new.
The first was almost 85 years ago in Japan. Imagine how many hairs were transplanted? Only one!
In the following decades, the process became more advanced. Now, it is possible to transplant a tuft of hair. Dermatologists or plastic surgeons are the ones who perform the transplant.
The goal of transplantation is to increase the number of hairs in a specific area of the scalp. This hair comes from another part of our body. Generally, the back of the head is used as a donor area. But there may be other sources.
One thing must be emphasized: this is not a procedure for everyone. It only works if thinning hair or bald patches are natural and well-defined, or if there is limited hair loss due to local scalp injury. Also, the candidate must have healthy hair on the back or sides of the scalp. Otherwise, it would be difficult to find another donor site.
People who opt for hair transplantation often experience increased shedding. This usually happens in a month, when most of the transplanted hair falls out.
There is no need to worry as this is completely expected. New hair will start growing within a month and a half to compensate for this.
In an article published in the Indian Dermatology Journal Online (2017), researchers from Cosmazone Hair Restoration Clinics demonstrated that 10-80% of transplanted hair will fully grow in 3-4 months. In six months they will have a natural appearance.
It must be remembered that while this procedure offers a more permanent solution to hair loss compared to other restoration techniques, transplanted hair, like normal hair, will also thin out over time.
Anyone considering a hair transplant should be prepared for several sessions with the surgeon/dermatologist for a satisfactory result. Generally, the sessions are held every few months.
Once everything is done, further cosmetic improvement can be achieved with additional treatments.
Like any other procedure, there are risks involved. After the transplant, there may be pain in the scalp, so pain medication may be required. Bleeding and infections are rare and minor complications.
If one has gone through other options with no results, a hair transplant may be a consideration. There are many transplant techniques. Choosing the right technique requires evaluation and consultation by a dermatologist/plastic surgeon.
We must keep in mind that this is only a cosmetic procedure, just the transfer of hair from one place to another. It is not capable of generating new hair.
