A gran has spent her last years in the “absolute anxiety” after undergoing a common treatment in the hope of looking at the best for her granddaughter’s marriage.
The retired nurse Yvonne Goulding underwent laser treatment for her 2021 varicose veins.
Shortly after the process of £ 2,000, the 76 -year -old began to complain about increasing pain and had to be in a hurry in A&E.
In the hospital, doctors had to fight to save her foot before transporting her to the hospital’s burn unit for skin cuttings to repair serious scarring and damage to the skin.
Laurence Goulding, 74, from Weston-Super-More, said the test had left Yvonne to “absolute anxiety” in her last years.
He died of irrelevant cancer last year.
The widow said that the process had left his wife’s trust “destroyed” in the last years of her life and that she was wearing only pants or jeans to hide the scars on her feet.
She said: “She destroys her trust and her lifestyle.
“The days when they were wearing anything, short pants, shorts or ordinary socks. It had to be heavy to cover it, flesh socks.
“I would go on vacation and could not wear shorts or crops. He had to wear pants or panties of flesh to cover the scar.
“Walking-sophisticated, for a few months later he struggled with walking because it was the muscle of Moscow that had been destroyed more or less on its own.”
Yvonne went to a private vein clinic in Bristol in August 2021, where she was diagnosed with varicose veins after protesting gravity, fatigue and cramps.
Doctors informed her to undergo endogenous laser removal therapy on both legs, a process aimed at closing the affected veins using lasers.
The two mom paid £ 2,000 and was released the same day with compression socks.
However, she began to complain that she was in “absolute anxiety” as she was driving the 20 -mile journey from her husband – who then rushed to the local hospital.
Laurence said: “It took a fortnight at Southmead Hospital at the Burns Unit.
“A few weeks later, before they have the opportunity to say,” you must have a skin graft, otherwise it will not stop bleeding, “we signed to say that the photographs could be used as a teaching state.
“They had never seen something like before. I have all the photos from start to finish.
Laurence followed legal actions and the clinic later paid him or her for about £ 9,000 in a settlement-if he did not acknowledge the responsibility.
Tragically, Yvonne died in April 2024, months after the 45th anniversary of the couple’s marriage, which means he did not see the outcome of the case.
What are the varicose veins and how are they treated?
Varicose veins are enlarged veins that look swollen and twisted under the skin.
They usually appear on the legs and may feel defense and swell from the skin.
Sometimes cause other symptoms that affect your feet, such as:
- Pain, pain or feeling of gravity
- Skin changes such as itching, color changes or dry, leather stripe
- Swollen ankles or feet
Symptoms can be worse as they stand for a long time and can be improved when resting with your feet up.
Varicose veins may worsen without treatment, but this usually happens very late for several years.
They do not always need treatment, but a GP can refer you to specialized tests if you have pain, gravity, swollen legs, itching or changes in the skin or any complications, such as ulcers on your feet.
There are several types of treatment that can be offered, including:
- Procedures for engaging blood flow to veins such as endothermic abstraction and foam sclerotherapy
- Surgery to remove veins
- Compression socks
Treatment to improve the way varicose veins occur is usually not available in NHS if they do not cause other problems. You may be able to pay for it privately.

Laurence is now talking to raise awareness to others.
He said: “While we received a payment we had no apology and absolutely no recognition of what my wife went through.
“I am worried that lessons have not really learned, and that there may be others affected as Yvonne, either in Bristol or elsewhere.
“I hope that speaking from anyone who is undergoing something similar will know the dangers.”
The sun has approached the clinic for comments.
