We look back at the highlights of Dentistry Live 2024 and offer a sneak peek at what’s in store for this year.
Last year, Dentistry Live brought dental professionals closer to the forefront of innovation and expertise through a series of exciting live demonstrations. From cutting-edge implant surgery to the intricacies of hygienic prophylaxis, these sessions highlighted the latest techniques and provided useful information for UK dental professionals.
The interactive demonstrations offered dental professionals a unique opportunity to learn directly from some of the UK’s leading specialists by watching the procedures in real time. The 2024 session series covered a wide range of topics tailored to enhance clinical skills and confidence.
Here are some of the standout moments from last year’s sessions:
- Karen Walker addressed the growing concern of peri-implant disease in implant dentistry. Her session provided a comprehensive guide to diagnosis, treatment and maintenance protocols, allowing clinicians to gain confidence in managing the new disease
- This year’s endodontic sessions focused on practical solutions for complex procedures. Both Tom Brannen and Simon Barnwell offered valuable advice on accessing, shaping and cleaning root canals. Their detailed knowledge of root canal treatment equips participants with the knowledge to provide high quality endodontic care
- Camilla Morrison’s session focused on reviewing an orthodontic case, highlighting the transition to a temporary retainer and planning the next steps in the patient’s esthetic journey. He shared ideas for achieving predictable and successful results, showing case impact before and after. This session provided valuable strategies for achieving excellent results in orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry.
Dentistry Live 2024 in review
We hear from two of our 2024 session leaders as they share their favorite moments from their live streams.
Cat Edney – hygiene precaution
I loved being able to follow the Dentistry Live audience through the entire communication process throughout the appointment. I think it’s important to show what really happens during a hygiene appointment.
This isn’t scale and polish – this is a full consultation that takes into account much more than a plaque index! Seeing my patients reaction after her appointment, how engaged she was and how we both completely forgot there were cameras on us was priceless!
We did have one or two technical challenges, but isn’t that always the way in the clinic anyway? As clinicians, we become very experienced at managing these difficult situations (for me, it was a lack of power in my Itero scanner!), but we made it work and were able to get the communication we needed to educate the patient.
I would love to see more Dentistry Live sessions on minimally invasive dentistry, communication and more bringing the patient into the conversation. In dentistry, we often focus on treatment and clinical outcomes, but the long-term impact on our patient and their understanding is something we must focus on.

Simon Barnwell – Endodontics: a living root canal procedure
My favorite part of my session at Dentistry Live was the opportunity to connect with colleagues during the post-event Q+A, as we received so many great questions!
The biggest surprise during treatment was the need to manage unexpectedly large amounts of bleeding from the canal, which started an interesting discussion after the incident and hopefully provided some important learning points.
My interest in dentistry is very narrow, so I look forward to future endodontic content!
