A 69-year-old retired gas worker from Crewe has been awarded £11,500 by his former dentists with the help of specialist dental negligence lawyers. Dental Law Partnership.
The payment was given to Mr. Roger Taylor after multiple dental mistakes, including gum disease left untreated as well as tooth decay left to develop, resulted in severe bone loss and the loss of multiple teeth that could have been avoided.
Mr. Taylor was a long-term patient at Monkmoor Dental Practice, Shrewsbury, since 1971.

Between 1986 and 2013, he was mainly treated by Dr Robin Pope and then by Dr Davinder Jakhu between 2014 and 2019.
Mr. Taylor said: “I have been attending regular appointments at Monkmoor for decades and have had many treatments over the years including fillings and crowns.
“I felt I got on well with the dentists there. After the Covid pandemic, I visited a new dentist and was shocked to hear that I suffered from severe bone loss and would need to be referred to hospital as I needed extractions and multiple restoration treatments.
“I was surprised. Neither Dr. Pope nor Dr. Jakhu had ever mentioned anything related to gum disease to me in all my years of appointments. It took me a while to come to grips with the situation.
“As a result of the extreme bone loss, in November 2021 I attended a series of hospital appointments where I was informed that I had a large cyst.
“I also had to have a series of tooth extractions under general anaesthetic.
“I then had to see another specialist dentist who diagnosed me with chronic gum disease and supported me through restorative treatment.”

Concerned about his experiences, Mr. Taylor contacted the Dental Law Partnership in 2022.
Analysis of his records revealed errors that had affected a significant number of Mr. Taylor and the significant bone loss in his jaw which could have been treated at a much earlier stage and ultimately avoided.
Mr. Taylor said: “I’m looking into cosmetic treatment at the moment as I have a lot of gaps in my teeth and it makes chewing much more difficult. But it would cost thousands of pounds.
“I struggle to chew and I don’t like to smile much anymore, on one side of my mouth I only have three upper teeth.”
“I have lost a lot of faith in dentistry. This is not an overnight problem – my problems had been building for several years and were never resolved at my regular office.”
The Dental Law Partnership took over the case of Mr. Taylor in 2022. The case was successfully settled in May 2024 when Mr. Taylor was paid £11,500 in an out-of-court settlement.

The dentists involved did not admit liability.
Nicholas Hampson of the Dental Law Partnership told Nub News: “The significant distress, pain and suffering our client has experienced was completely unnecessary.
“If the dentists involved had provided more satisfactory treatment, his problems could have been avoided.”
