Whether you’re looking for fullness or symmetry or a breast reduction, you’ve come to the right place. MU Health Care plastic surgeons specialize in performing safe breast augmentation surgery — and achieving natural-looking results.
If you are unhappy with the size, shape or appearance of your breasts, you are not alone. MU Health Care plastic surgeons routinely provide breast augmentation and other cosmetic breast procedures.
Our patients come to us for many reasons. For example, plastic surgery can help if:
- Your breasts have sagged or lost volume after pregnancy, breastfeeding or significant weight loss
- Age-related changes have caused your breasts to sag
- One of your breasts is larger (or falls lower) than the other
- You have large breasts that cause back pain or other problems, or are disproportionate to the rest of your body
- You would like to increase your breast size
Breast enhancement services we offer
Our breast plastic surgeons specialize in several types of surgery:
- Breast enlargement: We increase your breast size by placing implants under your breast tissue or pectoral muscles. MU Health Care offers silicone and saline implants.
- Breast lift: Your surgeon removes excess breast skin and reshapes some of your breast tissue. This lifts your breasts higher on the chest, giving them a more youthful appearance.
- Breast reduction surgery: We reduce the size of your breast by removing a certain amount of skin, tissue and fat.
- Breast implant removal: Your surgeon removes your breast implants because you no longer want them or because it is medically necessary.
What to expect
Here’s what to expect if you’re considering plastic breast surgery at MU Health Care:
Initial consultation
Your first appointment allows us to learn more about you and what you are looking for. Depending on the type of procedure you are interested in, we will discuss factors such as:
- Your medical history: We will look at your personal and family history of breast cancer and whether you are planning to have (or have finished) having children. We will also discuss any other breast surgeries you may have had.
- Your goals: We will make sure to understand how you want your breasts to be cared for after surgery. You will look at before and after photos to show us visual examples. This helps us set realistic expectations for the look you want.
- Your budget: Although breast reduction can sometimes be covered by insurance, cosmetic procedures are not, so it’s important to understand how much your surgery will cost. We will give you cost estimates for each procedure you are considering.
After your session, you should take as much time as you need to decide whether (and where) to have surgery.
The day of surgery
Each type of breast augmentation surgery requires different steps and different surgical techniques. This means that the duration of each process varies.
However, almost all breast plastic surgery is done as an outpatient procedure. This means you will go home the same day.
Your surgeon will advise you of your anesthesia options.
After surgery
After surgery, we’ll make sure you understand what to expect during your recovery. For example, we will let you know:
- If you will need to wear a special support bra and for how long. If you have had breast implants, we will provide you with two of these bras.
- What complications should you watch out for, immediately after the operation and in the future.
- Whether you have activity limitations.
- How often you should return for follow-up visits.
We will give you a detailed set of instructions and answer all your questions before you return home.
Lifetime breast implant care
If you have breast augmentation at MU Health Care, you can come to us with questions or concerns about your implants for the rest of your life — free of charge.
For example, call us if you ever experience unusual symptoms in or around your breasts. We will assess and order any necessary tests to help us confirm, rule out or troubleshoot problems.
These problems may include:
- A leaking or ruptured implant
- A complication called capsular contracture (buildup of scar tissue around the implant)
- An implant that has changed position
Our goal is to make sure your breast augmentation experience is as safe and smooth as possible — even years later.
Breast plastic surgery expertise you can trust
An important step when deciding to have breast plastic surgery is choosing who will perform your surgery and where it will be performed. You want to make sure you are in good hands before, during and after your procedure.
At MU Health Care, all of our plastic surgeons are board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). Plastic surgeons can only earn (and maintain) ABPS board certification if they consistently meet rigorous standards of care.
So when you choose one of our breast plastic surgeons, you can take comfort in knowing that they meet strict education and training requirements. This helps ensure you have a safe process and positive experience.
