- Margaret Spada, from Lentini, Sicily, traveled to Rome for the procedure
- But the 22-year-old fell ill on the operating table and died days later in hospital
A young woman died on the operating table after undergoing a nose job by a doctor she requested on social media in Italy.
Margaret Spada, a 22-year-old from Lentini in Sicily, traveled to the anonymous clinic in Rome for an “operation” on November 4 after spotting an ad for the facility on TikTok.
But she was seriously ill shortly after the local anesthetic was administered and fell unconscious before the rhinoplasty began.
Several attempts were made to revive Margaret, but her condition rapidly deteriorated and she was rushed to hospital where she fell into a coma.
Three days later, Margaret died in her bed at Sant’Eugenio Hospital in Rome, according to La Repubblica.
“The absurdity is that it was a routine operation,” said her family’s lawyer Alessandro Vinci.
“For a 22-year-old girl to come home in a coffin is unacceptable to the family.”
In a heartbreaking twist, Margaret’s boyfriend, who was in the waiting area when her condition worsened, was rushed into the operating theater to see his girlfriend as she fell unconscious.
Horrified by the scene, he decided to film a short video of what unfolded in the surgery – footage that is now being reviewed by investigators as part of a manslaughter investigation, according to La Sicilia.

“They want to know the circumstances and causes of their daughter’s death.”
Vinci added that an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
Meanwhile, a homicide investigation has been launched by the Rome Prosecutor’s Office, as reported by NeedToKnow.
Medical records have been seized to determine whether the center was adequately licensed to carry out complex cosmetic procedures such as rhinoplasty.
Investigators are also looking into whether Margaret’s health was properly assessed before she was anaesthetised.
