On December 12, the Based in Dallas, TX the company announced that it had in partnership with New Urban Development, “Miami’s largest black-owned real estate developer,” according to A press release. In an effort to combat the housing crisis in South Florida, TD Jakes Real Estate Ventures and New Urban Development are set to build two affordable housing developments, one in Hallandale Beach, Florida, and one in Miami Gardens, Florida.
“Florida continues to grow and the need for more living options reaches an unprecedented level,” Marcus Dawson, managing partner of TD Jakes Real Estate Ventures, shared in a press release. “Our mission is to create the alliances needed to help solve the most pressing problems like affordable housing. New Urban Development shares our vision of community transformation for seniors and underserved populations, as well as their achievements in South Florida model what development should look like in our communities.
The press release states that in Hallandale Beach, construction will be on a mixed-income multifamily development consisting of 200 units, while the Miami Gardens project will be on the elderly and has 150 units.
“The relationships and access to funding sources through TD Jakes Real Estate Ventures will help us expand the work we do to improve housing options in neglected and underserved neighborhoods in and around Miami-Dade County,” Oliver Gross, president of New Urban Development, said. “We all believe in a holistic approach to community revitalization that values transformation over transactions and integrates educational programs, financial literacy and other resources for residents.
So far, Hallandale development is expected to begin in early 2024.
