Kerri Cavanaugh, news director at WFOR-WBFS Miami, is leaving her position. She has been on leave for personal reasons in recent months and has informed station management that she will not be returning.
CBS owns WFOR, known as CBS Miami, and independent station WBFS.
Cavanaugh started in Miami in spring 2021. She said, in a note to colleagues: “As I took my time, I realized my journey was going in a new direction. I want to thank you all for our time together and wish everyone the best! Serving as your leader these past few years has been an absolute pleasure and I am so grateful to have been able to be a part of your life.
Kim Voet becomes president and CEO of WFOR-WBFS on August 14. She was a longtime news director at WDIV Detroit.
“Together we have covered some of the biggest news stories in Miami, Florida and across the country. With every major news event, you have always shown your passion and dedication,” Cavanaugh added. “I know that thanks to Kim’s leadership, you are all in good hands.”
Andrew Gillfillan, WFOR’s deputy news director, also left the station. The departure of Cavanaugh and Gillfillan was previously reported on TVSpy.
Kari Patey, news director at CBS-owned WCCO in the Twin Cities, has been acting news director at WFOR since Cavanaugh went on leave. Following the hiring of a news director at WFOR, Patey will move into a corporate role as vice president of producer development.
