A HAIR transplant surgeon has revealed the most effective products and habits to embrace for longer curls.
Dr. Roshan Vara recommended a specific seed oil among his hair growth tips.
Dr. Vara is the co-founder of the Hair Transplant Clinic The Treatment Rooms London.
Speaking to US Sun, she shared tips for boosting hair health.
EXCELLENT OILS
Dr. Vara said it may be worth trying a variety of hair growth methods to see which one works best for you.
Many people forget to include their scalp in their hair care regimen, but it can be beneficial for hair growth.
“A regular scalp massage can boost blood circulation to the hair follicles, and using your fingertips will minimize breakage,” she said.
“Applying hair oils to your scalp can also prevent dryness which in turn helps in better hair growth.”
Natural treatments keep hair healthy and hydrated.
“Coconut oil is great for providing moisture and reducing protein loss, while black seed oil helps soothe the scalp and promote growth,” she said.

He also warned about ingredients that could do more harm than good, including synthetic fragrances that can “strip the scalp’s natural oils” and damage growth.
“Many shampoos contain parabens and some alcohols, but these can have a dehydrating effect on both the hair and the scalp,” she said.
“Synthetic fragrances, or ‘perfume,’ can also strip the scalp of its natural oils, disrupting the hair growth cycle.”
SUPER COMPLEMENTS
Certain lifestyle changes encourage healthy hair growth, such as eating adequate protein and iron.
“Diet can have a bigger impact on your hair than you think,” said Dr. Vara.
“It is important to maintain a well-balanced diet, rich in essential nutrients such as protein, iron and zinc.
For those with curly or more textured hair, a wide-toothed comb is often better for detangling, avoiding frizz and breakage.

“Supplements like biotin and zinc are essential for biological functions, contributing to keratin production, supporting the hair growth cycle and follicle integrity.
“We advise our patients not to drastically restrict their calorie intake as this will affect your hair growth.”
BRILLIANT BRUSH
Harmful hair styling techniques should also be avoided if you are trying to grow your hair.
These include straightening, as well as wearing high and tight ponytails or buns.
“When it comes to styling, it’s important to choose the best brush or comb for your hair type,” she said.
“For those with finer hair, we recommend using a natural bristle brush as this is best for adding volume.
“For those with curly or more textured hair, a wide-toothed comb is often better for rinsing, avoiding frizz and breakage.”
Brushing the hair helps to distribute the scalp oils, but if you do it too often it can do “more harm than good”.
“This is also seen with aggressive brushing, which can include brushing wet hair and trying to brush when the hair bristles are not properly tangled, as this pulls too hard on the scalp,” she said.
TRICHOLOGY TREATMENT
While he brings medical expertise, Dr. Vara said his patients have given him some unusual tips for hair growth, such as washing their locks with sparkling water.
He admitted he’s not sure if the hack is effective at preventing hair loss, but said it’s unlikely to damage tresses.
“Our recommendation is generally to stick with a treatment that has been proven to work,” he said.
“If you are suffering from hair loss that is not being treated, see a hair loss professional who will be able to advise you accordingly.”
Dr. Vara said a doctor or trichologist is often better to talk to about hair health than a salon.
He said a specialist would be able to advise on prescription treatments to stimulate hair growth, such as Finasteride or Minoxidil.
