- The Miami Grand Prix took place this weekend.
- Billionaires like Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk took part in the festivities.
Billionaires mingled with athletes and celebrities this weekend at the Miami Grand Prix.
THE third annual Miami Grand Prix officially kicked off on Friday, with racers like Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo battling it out at the Miami International Autodrome. The 3.7-mile circuit surrounds Hard Rock Stadium.
Among the crowds of F1 fans gathered in SoFlo were billionaires like Jeff Bezos, who spent time with Tom Brady on Thursday.
A video obtained by Page six showed Bezos and the former NFL star at The Surf Club restaurant for an event hosted by Sports Illustrated. The couple spoke with Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, attorney Alex Spiro and Authentic CEO Jamie Saltar, according to the outlet.
The meeting between Bezos and Brady is not that surprising, given that they are neighbors. The Palm Beach post reported in August 2023 that Bezos purchased a home in Indian Creek – also known as the “Billionaire Bunker” – where Brady already lived.
The next day, Brady attended a pre-race practice session.
Elon Musk also made an appearance during the Miami Grand Prix weekend. The Tesla founder appeared at American Express Presents CARBONE BEACH, a 4-night “supper club experience,” on Friday.
Musk has been mired in problems at Tesla, including layoffs and one Cybertruck recall.
At the event, Musk was seated next to Ken Griffin, billionaire hedge fund manager and founder of Citadel. Citadel and Citadel Securities were headquartered in Chicago, but have moved in Miami in 2022.
Other guests at the AMEX event included Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trumpwho announced his intention to take a step back from politics in 2022 after his father’s visit to the White House. The couple now live in south florida.
A number of athletes also attended the event, such as LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Although the Miami Grand Prix is a spectacle that attracts F1 fans from all walks of life, it also helps boost the local economy.
An independent 2023 report commissioned by the Miami Grand Prix said the local economy raked in $449 million from the event, according to The Athletic.
