A TikToker has warned against the ‘turkey teeth’ dental trend after she said she was left in agony and paid thousands of dollars for less-than-adequate results.
Maya Rey, from Winnipeg, Canada, has posted a series of TikTok videos detailing her botched veneer procedure in a bid to prevent people from making the same mistake.
She explained that she had the surgery in September 2020, with an ex-boyfriend paying CA$25,000 ($26,700) to give her butt implants, breast implants and new teeth while on a trip to Turkey.
From the beginning Maya said she was worried about her dental work as the dentist did not speak English and had to use a translator.

But things gradually got worse when the dentist “rubbed” Maya’s teeth without the correct dose of anesthetic.
The Canadian said the plastic surgeon she used in Turkey recommended the dentist as they shared the same building.
Before getting her dental makeover, she showed the dentist photos of the kind of look she wanted, including the shape of her teeth and the level of whiteness.
When she came to the surgery, Maya said the dentist worked quickly and made all her teeth “numb” in just 30 minutes.
As the anesthetic was not administered correctly, she said it meant she was “feeling every bit of jazz” and was left in tears.
Recalling the nightmare scenario, she said: “It gritted my teeth it was so bad. It hurt a lot.’
After filing her teeth, the dentist fitted her with some temporary teeth and told her to come back in five days.
When she returned, she said the dentist “sawed off” her temporary teeth with pieces flying everywhere.
The permanent teeth were then installed, but no numbing was used, so Maya said everything was “so sensitive”.
When it was done, she looked in the mirror but said her teeth looked just like before, but whiter. She also discovered that instead of getting veneers, the dentist had given her crowns, so more of her teeth had been filed.
To make matters worse, four days later when Maya returned to Canada, one of her front teeth fell out.
This meant he had to do more dental work to fix the missing tooth.
As a warning to others, Maya concludes, “My teeth were beautiful before… Don’t pull turkey teeth… I know it’s all my fault.
“Yes, everything they tell you about you, you will regret in a few years. I regretted them the next day.’

When it was done, she looked in the mirror, but said her teeth looked like they did before (a pre-surgery photo is shown at left) just whiter. To make matters worse, four days later when Maya returned to Canada, one of her front teeth fell out.
As a warning to others, Maya concludes, “My teeth were beautiful before… Don’t pull turkey teeth… I know it’s all my fault.”
Veneers and crowns are both dental treatments that can improve the appearance and function of your teeth.
The most important difference between the two is that a veneer only covers part of the tooth while a crown covers the entire tooth.
Veneer is a very thin layer of porcelain, but can be made from other materials and is usually chosen more for cosmetic purposes.
They are attached to the front of the existing teeth with coloring on existing teeth that is matched by the dentist.
A crown is about twice as thick and covers the entire tooth in a much more invasive procedure than veneers because most of the tooth is removed to make room.
It can be made of porcelain, porcelain fused to metal alloy or all metal alloy.
